The Limits of Traditional Detection and Diagnosis

According to the prominent interventional cardiologists who comprise the Society for Heart Attack Prevention and Eradication (SHAPE), a serious gap exists between the scientific understanding of heart attack causes and the traditional medical practice for detection and treatment of heart attacks. The organization said traditional tests, including cholesterol screening and treadmill stress tests, are inadequate and leave millions of Americans who are at risk with the wrong impression that they are not.

A study published in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology reported that 88% of heart attack victims would have been considered low to moderate risk if they were tested with current national guidelines the prior day.*

SHAPE has suggested assessing the structure and function of the patient's arteries in order to identify those at highest risk. In September 2004, the group called on cardiologists to adopt technology advances to detect hidden heart disease.

Prescient Medical is committed to discovering, developing and marketing products to assist physicians in the detection and treatment of the major cause of heart attacks.
