WASHINGTON, DC – October 22, 2007 – Prescient Medical, Inc., a privately held medical device company dedicated to reducing deaths from heart attacks, was recently announced as a finalist in the Eastern Technology Council’s 2007 Enterprise Awards competition. Now in its 15th year, the Enterprise Awards recognize the achievements of the most outstanding technology and life science companies based throughout Pennsylvania, New York, New Jersey and Delaware. Award nominations are submitted by local business and community leaders, while a distinguished panel of judges from the technology and life science industries select the finalists and winners. This year’s winners will be announced during ceremonies to be held December 6 at the Kimmel Center in Philadelphia, Pa. “It is an honor to be nominated for this prestigious award,” said Patricia Scheller, Prescient’s chief executive officer. “We strongly believe that our products will benefit millions of patients by helping physicians identify and treat those at risk for heart attacks. Nearly 80% of heart attacks are caused by soft plaques that suddenly rupture, resulting in a clot that blocks blood flow. Unfortunately for these patients, no clinically-validated diagnostic or treatment method currently exists. Our products, which soon will be in clinical studies, are designed to address this unmet need.” Founded in 2004 in Doylestown, Pa., Prescient was selected as one of three finalists for a 2007 Enterprise Award within the Life Sciences Start-up Company category. The company is presently developing novel technologies that will provide interventional cardiologists with a greater array of diagnostic techniques and treatments that will allow them to address the full spectrum of coronary plaques. Clinical trials to evaluate Prescient’s revolutionary diagnostic and treatment approaches will begin in 2008 with the vProtect™ Luminal Shield, a stent-like device that treats soft coronary plaques, and the vPredict™ Optical Catheter System, a diagnostic catheter designed to analyze and quantify the chemical composition of arterial plaque and assess its vulnerability to rupture.
